NEW A.M.E. ZION CHURCH HOSTS PRESENTATION ON
“AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN AND HEART DISEASE”
The Health
Ministry of New A.M.E. Zion Church, directed by Jackie Mingo, RN, recently
hosted a luncheon and afternoon presentation on “African American Women and
Heart Disease,” given by Carolyn Strimike, RN, MSN, Advanced Practice Nurse
in The Women’s Heart Center at St. Joseph’s. In her presentation, Ms.
Strimike described the added risk factors for heart disease faced by
African-American women, outlined gender and racial disparities in diagnosis
and treatment and offered strategies for following a heart healthy
lifestyle. Ms. Strimike (fifth right) is shown with members of the
congregation following her presentation.
