Testimonials From Our Patients:

Women who have received the comprehensive cardiac risk assessment screening at The Women’s Heart Center say…

I would like to thank you for the excellent care that I received in The Women’s Heart Center. From the moment she entered the room, the nurse’s pleasant smile made me feel so at ease and comfortable.

I learned so much from my visit. I’m glad that I took advantage of the ad that was in The Herald News. I will be sure to pass this valuable information on to other women and adhere to all the instructions that the nurse suggested and the information package that was given to me.

The knowledge, expertise and patience of the nurse made all the difference. Thank you so very much.

Dorothy Dicks

I came to the Women’s Heart Center in October; I had no idea what to expect. I had picked up a brochure after my bone scan and I decided to follow through and schedule an appointment for a screening.

I received a head to toe examination. My blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol were checked. The nurse was extremely thorough, very kind, very attentive and extremely compassionate.

I’m a nurse but I had a lot of questions that I needed to ask. My mother died at age 62 of a massive heart attack; she had no signs or symptoms of heart disease. The nurse answered all of my questions. She told me things I didn’t know and told me what I should do. She recommended and explained the exercises that I should do. She listened carefully and answered all of my questions.

I could sense that she wasn’t rushing. This was my time. I was her only patient. I felt very comfortable.

After the exam, I was so happy. I felt that a great load had been removed from my shoulders. I was so pleased that I sent my daughter and I continue to refer other friends to the Women’s Heart Center.

The nurse who provided my screening at The Women’s Heart Center was great! She was very friendly, extremely kind and very thorough. She explained everything.  She took my blood pressure in both of my arms and both of my legs. She told me what my cholesterol was—both the good and the bad—and what it should be. She gave me lots of information on how to reduce my cholesterol, including the foods that I should eat. In order to lose ten pounds, I am going to walk every day.

No one had ever given me so much information or explained the importance of keeping your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers low. I plan to share this information with everyone in my family. I know that it will help them.

I definitely recommend The Women’s Heart Center to every woman. It is one of the best examinations I have ever had.

Before I came to my appointment at The Women’s Heart Center, I received a packet that contained questions about my health history, my family’s health, etc. I brought the packet with me and the nurse reviewed the entire survey with me. She asked me questions about my health and encouraged me to ask questions too. She didn’t miss anything!

After she took my blood, she gave me a small snack to eat and talked some more with me. The entire exam was very private---just the nurse and me—and I could sense her kindness and respect. She measured everything---my waist, my neck, etc, checked the circulation in my legs, my blood pressure in both arms and checked my heart, lungs.  She explained all the different body shapes—an apple, a pear, an avocado--- a woman could be; I found out that I am an avocado.  She told me what I needed to work on to improve my health. She gave me tips on healthy eating.

I have already purchased a step counter and I am counting my steps every day.

It was a great experience. The Women’s Heart Center is a great program. I have taken brochures that I will share with everyone in my family and my church.

I would recommend it 100%.

My friend from church insisted that I come to The Women’s Heart Center for a screening.  I came with another friend and it was just great.

The nurse’s personality is out of sight! She is so sweet. She took a lot of time with me and explained everything as she was doing it.

I never had my blood pressure taken in my legs. That was really new for me. She told me that I would hear a little noise and the meaning of the noise.

My blood pressure was a little high so the nurse told me what I could do to lower it. I have already started walking and buying heart healthy foods.

This is the best exam I have ever had. No one had ever taken so much time with me.

I definitely recommend The Women’s Heart Center to everyone.

I had an excellent experience in The Women’s Heart Center. The nurse who provided my screening was wonderful. I had enough time to talk to her, she answered all of my questions and gave me a lot of valuable information for myself and my husband.

My screening was one of the most comprehensive exams I have ever had in my life. No one had ever measured my waist as part of a physical examination. I had never had my blood pressure taken in my legs. I had never had a body mass index measurement.

I definitely and enthusiastically recommend this screening to every woman. The nurse was excellent and I was extremely pleased in every way.

For Valentine’s Day, my husband gave me a gift certificate for a screening at The Women’s Heart Center.   From the beginning until I left, it was a very good experience.

I am a nurse and the nurse who provided my screening was extraordinary. She was very professional, but also friendly and warm. She put me at ease immediately and answered all my questions.

I was extremely satisfied with my screening and the entire experience in The Women’s Heart Center.

My experience with The Women’s Heart Center was very very excellent because it helped me to learn things about my health that I otherwise would not have known.

The nurse who provided my screening found a clogged artery in my neck and also that I have high blood pressure. Without The Women’s Heart Center, I may have had a heart attack or a stroke. I am now taking steps to address these problems and take better care of my health.

It was like someone sent The Women’s Heart Center staff especially to me. The staff came to my church and gave a presentation.  I am so grateful to the nurses and to The Women’s Heart Center. It was a very very good experience and I recommend the screening and The Women’s Heart Center to everyone.

I was very pleased with the heart screening provided by St. Joseph’s Women’s Heart Center. I really felt that it was worth the time and the $30 to have had this screening done. Most of us who go to the doctor for blood work and blood pressure really don’t understand our numbers. However, this screening provides you with this information. The nurses inform you of your blood pressure numbers, body fat, cholesterol and weight and other numbers that are important to your overall health. They also explain how to shop better for groceries and what to look for when reading labels. They also stress how important exercise is for us.

Linda Sinkler

After I attended an educational program given by staff from The Women’s Heart Center, I made an appointment for a healthy heart check-up. The screening reinforced what I was doing and motivated me to want to continue to change how I ate and what I ate. I was given a report on my numbers from my work-up in The Women’s Heart Center and the nurse who provided my screening told me what I could do to improve my chances and reduce my risk for heart attack, high blood pressure and stroke. I keep the report close at hand so when I slack off, I re-read the information and I am reminded to keep on track.

It is never too late to start thinking about healthy choices and exercise. Since I have started exercising 30 minutes three times a week for cardio and three times a week for weight training and eating better, I am stronger and healthier. I have more energy and stamina. I am conscious of what I eat and I try to make healthy choices. I have lost weight slowly but steadily.

It is never to late to make positive changes in your lifestyle. Don’t expect changes overnight but just hang in there and you will see the difference. The old adage, “better late than never,” is true. It  took me 58 years to understand the role of diet and exercise in having and maintaining a healthier and happy life.

My 45- minute screening at The Women’s Heart Center was one of the most thorough examinations I have ever received. The nurse was kind, gentle, very caring, extremely knowledgeable. She explained every step of the examination as she provided it. I had never had my blood pressure taken in my legs, nor had anyone broken down my “good cholesterol” and “bad cholesterol” numbers. It was extremely enlightening.

As a result of the exam, I learned I’m a “pear.” I also know that I must walk 30 minutes a day, keep the salt shaker off the table,  and not let everyday stress get to me. I know what I have to do to keep my heart healthy.

I would urge every woman to schedule a screening at The Women’s Heart Center. We are so busy taking care of our spouses, families, work responsibilities that we tend to overlook our own health and needs. This exam is an investment in your self, your health and your life.

Spending one Saturday morning at my church turned out to be one of the most rewarding ways to spend my morning.  After hearing St. Joseph’s 2006 employee of the year speak about women and heart health, I was one of the first individuals to sign up for the screening. It was one of the most enlightening screenings/exams I have had. The nurse was extremely professional but also honest and real. She made me feel very comfortable.

She explained the results of my exam as well as offer some suggestions for making behavioral change and modifying poor eating habits. I have started exercising and eliminated or reduced some foods that were bad for me.

Women in general are caretakers, but not of themselves. We need to take action and take better care of ourselves. I would definitely recommend the Women’s Heart Center screening to other women. It may save their lives!!

I learned about the Women’s Heart Center through the health ministry at my church. One of the nurses who coordinates the ministry told me about the program and encouraged me to sign up for a screening.

The screening was an excellent experience, far better that what I anticipated.  The nurse was extremely professional, very thorough. She put me at ease immediately. She explained all of the tests that I received and also completely reviewed the results of the tests.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received a detailed report about the screening exam, including all of my test results in the mail. I was able to share this information with my primary care physician.

The Women’s Heart Center screening was a very positive experience. I have already recommended it to other women.

The Women’s Heart Center screening was the most thorough exam I have ever completed. Since my screening, I have lost weight, my blood pressure has gone down and I have decreased my cholesterol by 40 points. This screening and the education taught me about the effectiveness of behavior modification in relationship to a woman’s healthy heart.

My cardiac risk assessment at The Women’s Heart Center was the best investment of time and money. I not only received a complete assessment but the nurse also educated me and provided guidance and reassurance.

We women want to live long, healthy lives for our families, children, grandchildren and ourselves. This screening gave me a push to know and monitor my cholesterol, exercise, eat healthy. I received coupons, recipes and a complete list of recommendations to keep my heart healthy.

I have a strong family history of heart disease. My mother, grandmother and two of my sisters had heart disease. For several months, I experienced symptoms of heart disease that were not diagnosed. After my screening at The Women’s Heart Center, I was recommended to undergo a cardiac catheterization. The catheterization showed a 70 percent blockage in the left artery of my heart. I was diagnosed and treated before a heart attack could occur. The Women’s Heart Center at St. Joseph’s was truly a blessing for me.

The Women’s Heart Center at St. Joseph’s saved my life. When I received my first screening, my triglycerides were 6000, my cholesterol was 600 and my blood sugars were in the 300s. After my screening and the treatment I received, my triglycerides are now 280, cholesterol 103 and my blood sugars are in the low 100s. Other testing revealed blockages in my heart and stents were placed in the arteries. Without this treatment, I could have had a heart attack, at age 38! I feel better than ever and my health is great!

Michele Sabatino, RN, BSN

Because I recently experienced some cervical neck and leg pain, I wondered if the pain could be cardiac-related. While I don’t have a history of heart disease, signing up for the St. Joseph’s Women’s Heart Center screening seemed like a logical route to take.

After relaying my concerns to one of the very caring and professional cardiac nurse practitioners, I was relieved to learn that, following the very comprehensive exam/screening, my pain was not cardiac related. Arthritis and sciatica were the culprits. Funny, I never imagined being labeled a “pear” would be so meaningful. Seriously, I found this personalized screening full of enlightening information with suggestions geared individually to meet my lifestyle needs. I was so impressed with the entire experience that I have been urging all my friends to become proactive in this initiative. The time is now to give our hearts a helping hand AND a fighting chance.

I came with my two sisters for the Women’s Heart Center screening exam. The nurse who provided the examination was great. It was the most thorough exam I have ever received and well worth the $30 cost. She gave me so much information.  She told me about my heart, arteries, explained the importance of diet and exercise. This experience has given me the incentive to take better care of myself and exercise more.

Maria Rendon

I have a history of heart disease, diabetes and hypertension in my family.  My mother and grandmother died of heart disease. My father had heart disease.  This screening gave me new information about how to take care of my heart and  manage my diabetes. I also learned, the importance of diet and exercise and the unique warning signs of heart disease that women experience. It was extremely informative, extremely helpful. I tell every woman I know, “Now is the time to take care of yourself. Now is the time to go to the Women’s Heart Center.”  We need to get more serious about our health if we plan to be around to see our grandchildren.

Coming to the Women’s Heart Center for a screening was a very enlightening experience. The nurse was so easy to talk to and willingly gave me so much information on heart disease. I learned not to be afraid to do what I have to do to protect my heart.

The screening was the most thorough examination I have ever received. I felt very comfortable and it opened my eyes to the benefits of exercise and weight management.

You should never assume that your heart is healthy and you shouldn’t be afraid to go to the Women’s Heart Center for a screening. It should be routine—just like going for a mammogram or a colonoscopy. It was a very positive experience for me. The nurse was extremely personable, asked all the appropriate questions and gave me full feedback about the results of my tests. She provided tips for heart health, told me how to improve my cholesterol and assured me that everything was okay. It was great.

Ann Marie Kachler

As a former nurse, I couldn’t have asked for anything more from my screening at the Women’s Heart Center. The nurse was extremely professional, kind, very attentive. She carefully took down all my information. I was able to ask all my questions and received a tremendous amount of information. For $30, it was wonderful.
