WHC STAFF PROMOTES HEART HEALTH AWARENESS AMONG AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN
Members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority hosted a presentation on “African American Women and Heart Disease,” given by WHC Advance Practice Nurse Carolyn Strimike, RN, MSN at the group’s February meeting. At the presentation, Ms. Strimike spoke about the premature deaths of Yolanda King and Donda West from heart disease, outlined the specific cardiovascular disease risk factors faced by African-American women, described the presentation of heart disease in women and outlined the signs of both a heart attack and a stroke. Ms. Strimike offered a “prescription for heart healthy living” and encouraged AKA members to come to WHC for a comprehensive screening. Ms. Strimike (center) is shown with members of the group following her presentation.
